The Dark Side of the Universe
Francesca Lepori
(Senior Research Assistant , University of Zurich, Department of Astrophysics )
How does the Universe look when we study it as a whole entity? Right now, many scientists believe that it’s mostly dark. In this talk, I’ll explain why cosmologists like myself rely on the existence of a dark sector, made of dark matter and dark energy, to make sense of what we observe, and how we hope to uncover more with ESA’s space mission, Euclid, which is working to shed light on the dark side of the Universe and explore its deepest mysteries.

Looking for Dark Matter Underground
Nicolas Angelides
(Postdoc, University of Zurich )
Detectors full of several tons of Liquid Xenon are currently operating in several underground laboratories around the world. These experiments create some of the purest, quietest and most sensitive environments where dark matter can one day be detected. Maybe it already has. In this talk the concept of dark matter will be presented alongside state of the art efforts at directly detecting it.
