Water and Landscapes (and HM the King)
James W. Kirchner
(Prof. (em.) ETH Zurich; Senior scientist and former Director, Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL)
Landscapes receive water from rain and snowmelt, and partition it into "green water" that is released back to the atmosphere through plants, and "blue water" that flows to lakes and streams, and ultimately the ocean. How landscapes do this shapes floods, droughts, and the health of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Come find out more, and hear what all this has to do with the King of Sweden.
Using AI to Tackle Biodiversity Loss: Opportunities and Challenges
Daniele Silvestro
(Computational biologist at ETH Zurich)
Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of the major challenges humanity is facing and will have to tackle in the future. In my talk I will present how artificial intelligence can help optimizing biodiversity and conservation strategies while using restoration of nature as an asset to combat climate change.
