Happy accidents: how explosions, mold, and pigeon poo built modern science

Scientists throughout history have worked tirelessly and methodically to advance our understanding of the universe. However, great advances sometimes happen entirely through clumsiness, mistakes, or just dumb luck. I will describe a few such serendipitous accidents, and explain how they contributed to science and technology in unexpected ways. These examples will provide a lesson on how to make the most of unwanted circumstances, and how failed experiments can be blessings in disguise.
