In observational pursuit of dark matter and dark energy

I shall talk about cosmological experiments which indicate the presence of dark matter and dark energy. Why are most cosmologists convinced that ordinary matter makes up only about 4% of the total energy density in the Universe and the rest is dark matter (28%) and dark enegy (68%) ? I shall also discuss possible pitfalls and how we can go beyond them.
