Come learn about the fantastic carnivorous plants and the intricate circadian timing system in mammals, and enjoy live music played by plants.

An introduction to the fascinating world of carnivorous plants

Arthur Sanguet (PhD candidate)
Carnivorous plants have always fascinated people and even Darwin said that the Venus Flytrap was "one of the most wonderful plant of the world" when experimenting with it. During this presentation, you will learn what are carnivorous plants, what kind of trap mechanism they use, and discover some amazing specimens, stories, and interactions they have with other animals to survive.

A musical extract from the project "La floraison"

Sergei Leonov (Composer and sound artist)
Today’s sound technologies gives us the opportunity to realize an infinite amount of variations of artistic projects. One of them - registration of changing in electrical tension of a plant with an Arduino platform and then using this I formation for sound production. This allows plants to express themselves through music and perhaps communicate with us.

The orchestration of daily oscillations by the mammalian circadian timing system

Dr Ueli Schibler (Professor emeritus)
In mammals, including humans, virtually all physiological processes undergo daily oscillations that are coordinated by the circadian timing system. This system has a hierarchical architecture: a master pacemaker located in suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the brain synchronizes self-sustained and cell-autonomous clocks that are ticking in nearly all body cells.
