Plastic optimization system

Incineration and (mechanical) recycling are the two main options to handle significant volumes of plastic waste. The former is a very effective way of reducing volume and producing significant amounts of heat and electricity, while the former is able to preserve the chemical structure of the plastics and therefore avoid the production of virgin resins. Should we incentive recycling, promote a separate collection of plastic waste, or should we on the other hand incinerate a bigger fraction? In this talk Rafael Castro-Amoedo will explore the trade-off between both.
The Platform for urban energy system research at Energypolis

The platform for urban energy systems is a technical, multi-energy installation integrated within the buildings of the new Energypolis Campus. Born from a partnership between HES-SO VS, EPFL-VS and OIKEN, the largest energy utility in central Valais, its purpose is to demonstrate and test the latest concepts and technologies in terms of urban energy systems (such as CO2 networks, reversible power-to-gas systems) that will help cities in successfully implementing their energy transition by 2050 as well as to educate tomorrow’s engineers in properly managing them.
