Our scientists will guide you through a fantastic overview on sexually- and insect- transmitted diseases.

Sex, Microbes and test tubes: How do scientist research Sexually Transmitted Infections?

Enrique Rayo (Postdoctoral Researcher at The Chlamydia research team, Institut für Veterinärpathologie. UZH)
Despite being easier than ever to treat the bacteria that cause Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), these cases are on the rise globally and in Switzerland. But what are the most important bacteria that can be transmitted during sex? How can we detect them? How are they studied? Why is it important to research them? Join us and learn about this topics and a sneak peek into how a STI research laboratory looks like.

Blood-feeding insects - Just annoying bites or disease transmission?

Alec Hochstrasser (PhD Student at Institute of Parasitology, University of Zürich)
We all know the annoying sound of a mosquito flying in the room and the nuisance caused by its bites. Yet, this nuisance is only a fraction of the impact that mosquito bites can have. Blood-feeding insects are able to transmit pathogens that can cause severe diseases, like malaria and dengue. So, how do we study these mosquito-transmitted diseases? How are we developing solutions?
